Fantasy Impact: The Calgary Flames have signed Jiri Hudler, according to TSN. The deal is for four years at $16 million.

The Flames get: a small, skilled winger with untapped offensive potential, but can be very inconsistent.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Hudler has never before been given a lead role with a team, but this contract puts him third among team forwards (behind Jarome Iginla and Mike Cammalleri). His arrival knocks Sven Baertschi out of the top six (or Lee Stempniak, depending on who you had there).

As for Hudler, expect the same ol', same ol'. He's a quality offensive talent who has settled into that 50-55 range. Naturally, a new team will increase his odds of taking the next step, but he probably won't. The added scoring depth on the wing will help the Flames' centermen.

Fantasy Players this helps, in order:

1. Roman Cervenka

2. Mikael Backlund

Fantasy Players this hurts, in order:

1. Sven Baertschi

2. Lee Stempniak

3. Blake Comeau

... As a long time Red Wings fan, I actually like this signing for Calgary. Gets him out of a Wings sweater for the immediate future! I was never a huge Hudler fan, I thought he coughed up the puck too easily on most nights. I think Calgary paid a bit too much for him, but hopefully the change of scenery will do him some good.

... The biggest thing hurting Stempniak, is Stempniak- no clue why the signed him. The flames arent going anywhere with him, so why not play a younger player like Baertschi,Nemsiz,Backlund- even Comeau! A slightly bigger role for Hudler wont overcome the fact hes no longer recieving passes from Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Lidstrom etc.
