Fantasy Impact: The Winnipeg Jets have signed winger Alexei Ponikarovsky to a one-year deal worth $1.8 million.
The Jets get: a formerly overrated player who is finally finding his niche in the NHL and being treated accordingly. He's a third-line "tweener" capable of subbing in on the second line in spurts. But his upside at this point is in the high 40s. He could very well hit that upside here though, as he will be reunited with Nik Antropov.
Fantasy Players Impacted: I think mentally this will help Antropov, but how can you measure that? But if he's going to rebound without being traded, this is the best way to do that. Ponikarovsky himself will see more ice time in Winnipeg than he would on many other teams, so his odds of 45-plus points increases.
Adding any winger will impact the kids. There are a couple of youngsters champing at the bit to make the club on the wing. This obviously hurts those chances. Players such as Spencer Machacek.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Antropov 2. Ponikarovsky
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Machacek 2. Ivan Telegin 3. Carl Klingberg
Set as favorite
