Angus here - wrote a column on Jamie Benn for my blog today - some interesting statistics and comparisons. Benn's 2011-12 season was even better than you may think. Read it here.
I updated the Fantasy Prospects Report - you can download it again. Inside you will find a Tarasenko update, profiles on both Cory Conacher and Alex Petrovic, a Zuccarello update, and a couple of inconsistencies fixed (very minor - Strome, Howden, Schwartz).
Tim Thomas is sitting out for the year. How many of you got screwed by that one? I remember doing a deadline deal in which I helped a guy win the title and in exchange he helped my future. It was giving him Jonathan Quick, Max Pacioretty and Jhonas Enroth for John Tavares, Martin Havlat… and Tim Thomas. Sonuva…
Tuukka Rask owners were sitting on a great young goalie who was looking 20 wins. Now he’s looking at 40 wins. And if he gets hurt? Anton Khudobin is your guy. He goes from potential KHLer to potential starter. Careers have been made from less.
The Preds have signed Daniel Bang, an undrafted free agent who loves to ‘bang’. If you need penalty minutes, potentially this guy could see some games, especially if Jordin Tootoo walks. He was in the SEL last year and racked up 82 PIM in 40 games.
At a glance, the top unsigned fantasy prospect going back into the draft after Petr Straka is Ludvig Rensfeldt, whom the Blackhawks elected not to re-sign. He is ranked 267 on my Fantasy Prospects List.
Dobber favorite Chris Bourque signed a two-year deal with the Bruins. “I told Chris that I think he has a good chance of making our team. I told him that he’s just not there to go to Providence.” This is from Peter Chiarelli – who gave Bourque a one-way contract in the second year of that deal. Bourque will not be a checker, and I think he has a chance at making a splash. Bet money? No, not that confident. But I will be watching, and I’ll have a very quick trigger finger playing the wire. Very quick. As in, I’ll grab him if he gets a point early.
The good news is that I have moved my sites to a new server. Saturday night. Everything is faster, and with the new firewall I can withstand idiot hackerbots planting things in some remote corner of my site, like what happened a couple of months ago when the site slowed to a crawl. The bad news is, some parts of the site are not forwarding correctly. We are working on that, should be fixed soon.
Also, big announcement coming today. The worst kept secret.
Another note, this one about the Fantasy Prospects Report. Cory Conacher is supposed to be in it. He was on the list to do, and marked as ‘done’ (by me). He wasn’t done. A brain fart. The FPR will be updated after the Cup is won with the Mock Draft – but it will also have five or six new player profiles added, including Conacher’s. He’s a Dobber favorite, how can I not have him in there?
Here’s my Top 10 Conn Smythe candidates after two games in the Final: 1. Jonathan Quick. The end.
Nashville prospect Teemu Laakso has signed to play in the KHL.
Nice Cup remix:
Doughty end to end:
