Believe it or not we’ve reached the Final of our Cage Match Tournament. It feels like only yesterday we were trotting out the also-rans and their play-in games. It’s been an amazing journey with laughs and cries, upsets and blowouts. It seems silly to dive right into the finals so before we do in let’s take a look back at how we got here.
#1 Evgeni Malkin over #2 Sidney Crosby – 76 votes to 68 votes. The takeaway here is that 68 of our voters have experimented with hard drugs, love sky diving, have copious amounts of unprotected sex and more than likely have some level of gambling addiction and I am one of them. I kid, of course, but there certainly is an inherent amount of risk betting on the guy who has missed so many games over the past year and a half and is one hit away from entering the Lindros Zone.
#1 Steven Stamkos over #2 Daniel Sedin – 121 votes to 14 votes. Conversely, the take away here is no one likes gingers. Well, okay, 14 people are representing for the fiery nation. Wave those red flags proud, it makes you an easier target!
#1 Evgeni Malkin vs. #1 Steven Stamkos And then there were two. These guys have been on a collision course since day one. In fact, it is their substantial rivalry on this site that inspired this whole tournament. Stamkos vs. Malkin is the Cage Match I get the single most requests for. Knowing that I could never convince you all (especially not after the Big Man tried his best to mixed reviews), I decided to put the question in the hands of you, the reader. So in my mind these past few weeks have just been about the generating the buildup necessary for a battle of such epic proportions. It was always going to be Malkin vs. Stamkos, my own opinions about where Crosby fits into all of this aside. I can’t wait to see who wins. Choose wisely Dobber Nation, this decision rests on your shoulders, and whoever wins will go down in infamy!
