Fantasy Impact: The Minnesota Wild have traded defenseman Nick Schultz to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Tom Gilbert.
Join our live chat of the NHL Trade Deadline 2012 here.
The Wild gets: A streaky, but potentially solid puck-mover in Gilbert who is in his prime. His career high is 45 points, and his best month is generally February/March so the team gets him at the right time.
The Oilers get: A steady, physical, mobile yet stay-at-home defenseman. Precisely what the Oilers lack - like an Andy Sutton of five years ago, but better.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Jared Spurgeon is probably okay despite this acquisition. This gives him a power-play partner so it may even help. But for now I will call it a wash. Gilbert should flourish - not only because he usually does at this time, but also the usual "just traded" adrenalin. Edmonton's Jeff Petry gets more responsibility.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Gilbert 2. Petry
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Kurtis Foster Possibly Spurgeon, but probably not.
