Fantasy Impact: The Buffalo Sabres have signed Ville Leino to a six-year deal worth $4.5 million per season.
The Sabres get: A very strong set-up man and potential 25-goal scorer.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Since Jaromir Jagr replaces him in Philly, nobody on that team is hurt by this move. In Buffalo, however, Leino joins a long list of players who can top 60 points. Given his salary, it's hard to see him not in the top six, which puts the onus on the likes of Drew Stafford, Nathan Gerbe or even their golden boy Tyler Ennis. Not to mention Jason Pominville and Brad Boyes, who have been somewhat declining. This hurts Luke Adam's shot at a roster spot, although I still think he'll get one. Let's take a look at potential line combos:
Potential Line Combos: Vanek-Roy-Leino Ennis-Gerbe-Stafford Boyes-Gaustad-Pominville Hecht-Adam-Kaleta Kotalik
So much mix-and-match potential here...
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Nobody
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Gerbe 2. Pominville 3. Boyes

... Gerbe is not a center and has never played that position. Plus you forgot McCormick. The lines might go like this: Vanek - Roy - Stafford Ennis - Leino - Pomminville Boyes - Gaustad - Hecht Gerbe - McCormick - Kaleta Kotalik, Adam |
