Fantasy Impact: The Montreal Canadiens have signed winger Erik Cole to a four-year deal worth $18 million.
The Canadiens get: A proven 30-goal scorer who is fragile, but is coming off an 82-game season. He brings much needed size and skill.
Fantasy Players Impacted: To get onto a scoring line - and with that money, he will - he must displace one of Max Pacioretty or Andrei Kostitsyn. If Pacioretty is healthy, he stays. That means Kostitsyn is out of the top six, unless someone gets hurt or he has one of his patented hot streaks.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Tomas Plekanec 2. Zach Dalpe/Drayson Bowman/Zack Boychuk
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Andrei Kostitsyn 2. Max Pacioretty 3. Lars Eller

proven 30-goal scorere I believe he's a proven 30-goal scorer because he's scored 30 goals in the NHL before, with Carolina. He also followed it up with a 29-goal season. That work for ya? |

... This also will help Pacioretty a lot in the long run. Erik Cole might be the best model for Pacioretty as far as what he needs to do to become an effective physical forward capable of scoring between twenty-five and thirty goals in the NHL. With his speed, Pacioretty has the potential to surpass Cole in every way. Watching him closely for the next four years is the best thing he could ask for. |
