Fantasy Impact: The Washington Capitals have acquired defenseman Dennis Wideman from the Florida Panthers for Jake Hauswirth and a third-round draft pick per Mike Vogel.
The Capitals get: a decent offensive rearguard who tends to make a splash with a new team early on, but then fades by the second or third year.
The Panthers get: a solid draft pick and a probable minor leaguer.
Fantasy Players Impacted: This does not bode well for Mike Green owners. Granted, this is an insurance policy, but what a statement this makes. Adding Wideman when they didn't need a player like that - but if Green is out for any length of time, then they desperately need a player like that. Wideman owners - congrats. Passing the puck to Alex Ovechkin is much different from passing the puck to David Booth.
In Florida, the oft-injured youngster Dmitri Kulikov is suddenly the main man on the blue line. And keep an eye on Alexander Sulzer as well. The Panthers have no choice but to give him a ton of ice time and run the power play now. It's on a silver platter for him, let's see if he takes it.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Wideman big gap 2. Sulzer 3. Kulikov
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. John Carlson (but not much - he's a stud who will prevail against any odds)

Kulikov or Sulzer Trade deadline day... so decision must be made quickly. I picked up Kulikov when McCabe went to NYC. Now you seem to be listing Sulzer ahead of Kulikov when Wideman gets moved. Can anyone provide insight on who of these two D-man in Florida will get the most PP time? What about other stats (PIMS and HITS for example)? I know FLD are not the strongest team, but top PP time, is top PP time for a D-man. Keep the analysis coming boys. Thanks - back check |

Green There's no doubt in my mind that Green is going thru some major injury issues, why else would they give up a 3rd+ for an (exclusively) offensive defenseman |
