Fantasy Impact: The Thrashers have signed Swedish winger Fredrik Modin to a one-year contract.
The Thrashers Get: a big winger with a heavy shot. Modin played very well for the Kings down the stretch and during the first round of the playoffs. He has lost a step or two with his speed, but he is a smart player and can fill a variety of roles on a team. Fantasy Players Impacted: More competition for Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien. Both Ladd and Modin can play scoring roles or on a checking line. He upgrades Atlanta's scoring depth, but takes away a potentially open spot in the top nine from a few of Atlanta's top prospects.
New Atlanta lines:
Kane-Antropov-Bergfors Ladd-Peverley-Little Modin-Cormier-Byfuglien Eager-Slater-Thorburn
Don't forget that the Thrashers are toying with the idea of moving Byfuglien back to his natural position of defense (at even strength, at least).
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Fredrik Modin 2. Cormier
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Angelo Esposito 2. Fredrik Petterson 3. Spencer Machacek

... Its about as relevant as your comments. Modin is a stiff now. Why do teams insist on paying these guys year after year. Move on. |

... Wow... you seriously pulled the "unemployment is this high" card? Really, you went there? |

... Well, I feel it is offensive that someone like that can make that much money for so little production when unemployment is this high. Just my opinion of course. Everyone, dont complain about high prices of everything NHL related then. |

Modin comments You must have missed the intangibles write up done here ...if it was just about talent, I guess the Sharks whould have won the cup or the RedWings would be having a 10 year dynasty...the intangibles are not a waste of time..just hard to quantify.. |

... Modin pts last 3 seasons: 12, 25, 11. Equals waste of time. He's 36 yrs old, time to hang'em up. Ladd has 2 cup rings and 5 yrs experience already. Perhaps he could show Modin something? |

... And here I was thinking that we'd see Machacek as Armstrong v.2. I guess if Buffy goes down to D, he can still play a worthwhile amount of TOI on the third line, but otherwise... it just seems that his spunk is exaclty what the Thrashers need, ESPECIALLY now that Army isn't around anymore. Then again, Modin brings some valuable experience. I haven't seen the cap hit, but I can't imagine that it's too high. In any case, he'll be worth it for this young group. |

Modin Disagree,....Great move...adds some grey hair to a young and up and coming offense. Don't see Antropov being able to motivate the young guys but Modin in the clubhouse will add some mental grit. I guess like Angus was saying last week, I can like this Atlanta team more and more....I had pretty much written them off before Angus wrote his commentary.... |

... Thumbs down. All this guy will do is steal quality ice time away from younger guys. Total waste. |
