Fantasy Analysis: Carolina sends Joe Corvo to Washington for Brian Pothier, Oscar Osala and a second-round draft pick.
The Capitals get: a streaky blue-liner who has teased us with 50-point potential, but in the end is a 40-point guy. However, in Washington a 40-point guy becomes a 50-point guy, so watch for Corvo to flourish. The Hurricanes get: an injury-prone rearguard who, like Corvo, is off the books as of this summer, plus a great draft pick and a decent prospect. Osala could be a 20-goal scorer in a couple of years, though he won't be ready for the NHL next season. Fantasy Players Impacted: Things open up for Osala now. He was buried in Washington, and although the Canes have some young prospect forwards on the cusp, he shouldn't have any problem getting to the show in a year or two.
Corvo owners strike gold. With 20 games or so left, it wouldn't shock me to see him get 15 points. He's off the books as of the summer, so John Carlson won't be set back any. Players this deal helps, in order: 1. Joe Corvo 2. Big Gap 103. Oscar Osala Players this deal hurts, in order: 1. Nobody

... No way in hell he gets 15 points. Corvo is garbage and Washington is worse than they were before the deadline. |
