Fantasy Analysis: The Los Angeles Kings have traded Teddy Purcell and a third-round pick to Tampa Bay for Jeff Halpern.
The Kings get: a hustling third liner who can sub in on the second line in a pinch if needed. The Lightning get: a third round pick is decent return. A player with Purcell's upside is a great return. Soft or not, he has toughened up over the last two years, though he still has a way to go. He is a potential top six forward who needed to go to a team with room. This fits him like a glove.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Purcell went from waiver fodder in roto leagues and a dropsy in keeper leagues to worth a pick up in both leagues. While I wouldn't expect more than eight or nine points for the rest of this year, he makes a nice dark horse for next campaign. A huge dark horse if he can slip in with one of their big guns. Players this deal helps, in order: 1. Teddy Purcell 2. Big Gap 103. Vincent Lecavalier (another player to try on his line - may work, may not) 104. Oscar Moller (and other youngsters in the Kings organization) Players this deal hurts, in order: 1. None.

... I know -- funny how fantasy makes the difference. I remember the case being similar when Stralman was dealt (both times). |
