DobberHockey

First off, an apology to the Dobber faithful. The plan was to provide an update at the end of October, but there was a slight hiccup along the way. While out in Vancouver for work, the memory stick that had my end October standings and write up were stolen along with several other valuable items (good old Van City!). The good news is that some of the property was recovered, including the memory stick. Now, on with the update!

Experts

What a difference a year (or two) makes. Two years ago The Comish was riding high, having won the inaugural Dobber Hockey Experts League. Last season, The Comish finished second. Two months into the current season and The Comish sits dead last and has for the entire season thus far. Embarrassed and frustrated are two words that readily come to mind. Sure injuries and poor starts have hit most of us, but at the end of the year they are only excuses.

Alright, enough about me. The real story in the Experts League at this point is Youth Injection. This guy was second in the Entry Division two years ago (qualifying him to move up) and last year topped the Pro Division to earn his entry to the Experts League. He led the Experts League at the end of October and as of the end of November, sits second to The Silver Hammers.

The big movers from October to November were Angus, who went from eighth to fourth (+12.5 points), while Youth Injection dropped to second from first (-13.5) and Lanky522, who fell from third to eighth (-11.5).

Some of the better free agent acquisitions over the past two months were:  Michael Del Zotto, Wojtek Wolski and Matt Carle by Third Degree Burns, Rich Peverley by Doulos-The Hockey Robot, Matt Moulson and Niclas Bergfors by Lanky522 and Jamie Benn by the Legion of Dobber.

There were only two trades in the first couple of months, with the first one happening before the season even got underway:

Sept. 15

To Maaaasquito Bites:  L-Parise NJ, R-St.Louis TB and C-Gagner Edm

To Notch:  C-Carter,J Phi, L-Smyth,R LA and D-Campoli Ott

Nov. 27

To The Comish:  L-Penner Edm

To Youth Injection:  C/R-Briere Phi

Pro – Wales Conference

The Woodbridge Wild jumped out to an early lead and have maintained a slim margin over forum regular Smack Attack. The big gainer from October to November was the St. John’s Capitals moving from eleventh to fifth, gaining 12.5 points. Sweet Pete gained 9.5 points and at the other end of the spectrum, Duballstar014 lost 10.5 points, falling from seventh to eleventh in the standings. The Usual Suspects lost 15 points and sat in the cellar at the end of November.

Some of the better pick ups were Wojtek Wolski, Rich Peverley and Maxim Afinogenov by St.John’s Capitals, Phil Kessel and Niclas Bergfors for the Woodbridge Wild, Jamie Benn and Matt Duchene by Joos, Matt Moulson by Thunder Bay Moose, Semyon (according to Yahoo) Varlamov by Smack Attack and Jarret Stoll by The Usual Suspects.

Pro – Campbell Conference

This Conference is comprised of forum regulars and has been very interesting with big movement from teams on nearly a daily basis. Notable gainers between October and November were Sentium, who jumped into first place from fourth (+14.5 points) and Zorro who gained 11.5 points in moving from seventh to third. UW on the UP (ultrawhiteness) lost 14.5 points and went from third to seventh and Crazynuck went from second to fourth and lost 11.5 points over the course of the month.

Here were the best free agent pick ups of the opening two months:  Michael Del Zotto and Jarret Stoll by 87flyer, Ales Kotalik, Matt Moulson and Anton Stralman by Fergie’s Leafs, Matt Carle, Rich Peverley and Mike Fisher by rattus rattus and Jamie Benn and Niclas Bergfors by Loki.

There was only one trade to report over the past two months:

... Great story Sentium! Now, start making moves before you get overtaken!

Doulos - Lykke til buddy, lykke til (good luck in Norwegian!). I'm not throwing in the towel just yet even though I'm in last place. Yes, my goal initially was to win the damn thing again, but I am still aiming for a top three finish and I think I have the horses to do it. Yes I will need some luck to do it, but with Malkin, Phaneuf, Gonchar, Lidstrom and hopefully Steve Mason onboard, it's going to be a miraculous come back of Maaaaainian proportions!! Lykke til indeed.

Yikes If not this year, then I am guaranteeing that next year one of the "callups" will win the Expert League.

... the completely ridiculous thing about my place in the standings is that (a) I missed the draft because I had thought it was a day later than it actually was, so I was at a goddamn party when it happened. and (b) that I have been so extremely swamped that I haven't had the time to make moves at all. I say to myself that I will sit down every damn monday to look things over and then I see that I'm not doing too badly, so goddamn zherdev can stay on my bench. at this point I'm beginning to think that if I make any changes, I'll jinx my team smilies/cheesy.gif
