Washington has signed Brendan Morrison to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
Fantasy Impact: The writing was on the wall for Michael Nylander anyway, but in case you were holding some kind of hope - let it go. Nicklas Backstrom will center the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Mike Knuble. The second line should have Morrison centering Alexander Semin and Tomas Fleischmann (or possibly Brooks Laich, if Fleischmann stumbles).
Having missed much of 2007-08 after undergoing wrist surgery, Morrison returned only to tear the ACL in his knee. That made his summer a write-off and he got off to a slow start last season. However, he seemed to find his groove in March, posting nine points in 10 contests to end the month. I think he'll be back to his 55- or 60-point self next season, especially with Semin taking feeds from him.

... Using the Fantasy Tools line combos, I noticed that Semin played with AO and NB quite a bit last year at even strength. Will this happen again or will he be a primary LW on that second line? What I am really trying to predict is what position Semin will be given in Yahoo!. He ended up as a RW,LW last year (awesome), but am wondering if he will end up being a RW only in Yahoo! due to his time with AO and NB. |
