Philly's woes go much deeper than a need for a second puck-moving defenseman.
After Forsberg was ejected from the game Thursday night, he proceeded to smash his stick, and several other things in the dressing room. He then got dressed and left the arena, abandoning everybody. Two weeks ago, he declined a shootout opportunity. He refused to take the shootout because he "didn't feel confident". Finally, by the sixth shooter, he relented. (FYI - he missed).
These are not exactly leadership qualities, and the Philly media is already beginning to criticize him for it, saying that the "C" is weighing down his jersey. Combine all this garbage with rumors of a year ago (and the year before that...and the year before that...) that Peter the Great would end his hockey career with a couple of years in Sweden, plus his constant injuries - and I wouldn't touch him with a seven-foot Chara in my keeper league.
Own him already? I would suggest waiting a month or so for the 33-year-old to get above a point per game...and then ditch him to another owner. I think he will be out of the NHL in about two years.
