The Fantasy Guide - my eighth - was released yesterday. I just uploaded today's updates - two new players added, a couple of typos fixed - and a coupon added for DobberFootball.

The Draft List is now fixed, and all columns complete (except notes, but those trickle in as time goes by). Re-download!

Fantasy Hockey Geek update - they will have their customizable premium list (just $7 more with my guide, or if you already bought the guide use a coupon that is upcoming that can be found in the guide Monday) updated hopefully by Monday, perhaps as early as Saturday. They were waiting on me. And now my part is done.

I give my thoughts on my Nathan MacKinnon Guide projection here, if you want to take a look.

*

I don't know if you caught this Canadian Press story, but it centers around a survey that reports that 90 percent of Canadian families choose not to have their kids play hockey. And then they surveyed 875 non-hockey-playing families to better understand why they don't play the game. But I don't think the researchers are looking at this properly. Dig deeper into the types of hockey - so 90% of families don't put their kids in organized hockey. What percentage of boys versus girls? What about ball hockey in the driveway? Backyard rinks? I guess the survey covers what Bauer needs it to cover - who's playing ice hockey and buying products that they sell. But the love and passion for the game is hardly slowing. That being said, if you want kids to join organized hockey then yes - find a way to make equipment cheap at the grassroots level (and then jack up the prices when they're teenagers and already hooked).

*

No shocker here - the Red Wings will retire Nicklas Lidstrom's No.5 jersey. Ceremony will take place on March 6.

*

The Blues have extended the contract of Jay Bouwmeester - $27 million over five years ($5.4 million). Bouwmeester actually did well once he joined St. Louis, tallying a point every two games. He saw 1.5 fewer minutes per game there too, versus what he was seeing in Calgary. I have him for 31 points in the coming season, per my Fantasy Guide.

*

If you're 6-7 and a defenseman, you're probably guaranteed a contract these days. The Rangers signed undrafted OHL rearguard Troy Donnay. He had eight points and 48 PIM in 68 games, but hey - he's 6-7.

*

How many points will Jordan Eberle get next year? I said 75. This Oilers' blog writer says 60-65, basing it on Eberle's inflated numbers stemming from an insane shooting percentage in 2011-12. That is definitely a reason for regression. But reasons for increase are several, and all intangible. Coaching. Maturity. And the improved lineup around him. These are intangibles that no advanced stats can capture. Shooting percentage can tell you a good story and give you odds - all things being equal - on someone improving or regressing. But all is not equal here. He had 76 points and then 63 points (pro-rated). Now he is entering his magical fourth year.

*

Tickets for a Florida Panthers game - $7? Wow! Nice piece here by THW

*

Check out what Nik Zherdev has been up to lately (car crashes, hotel fights, parking tickets…okay, I made up one of those)

*

I updated the player rankings (and d-man rankings) yesterday and I always have the most fun with the August edition. That's where I wipe the slate clean and go over every player, one by one, for the Guide. It's my 'audit', so to speak.

*

Old school - Willi Plett vs….. Ray Bourque?

... I can't wait to buy the guide!!!

Why are people even complaining about it? It is the best guide out there.
But I'll go: Dammit Dobber, how dare you give us a fantasy guide that is a fair price (probably should be more with the content involved), helps a TON with fantasy hockey and gets constantly updated all the way until we draft our teams! For shame.

Sedins HI Dobber,

Noticed in the Guide and plater rankings that you predicted a regression for Daniel and not Henrik. Probably the first time in their lives they have been seperated. Any insights as to why you think Daniel will be 8-10 points below Henrik?

Guide looks amazing by the way.

Thanks.

Positions? Dobber - question I just thought of... what do you believe is the most dependable site for forward positions?
I always enjoy the Excel draft list and breaking players into Tiers.
I haven't downloaded it yet, but do you have a basis (reliable site) for forecasting player positions?

... Chicago - Knight will be in the Guide I release today. I don't think he' makes the Flames, but he does have a shot for sure

Jeremy - Ovechkin is on two of the tabs, but he is 'hidden' in the other tab. I sorted that one without unhiding it, by mistake. An easy fix that will be uploaded later today

UK - All the picks but 22? The article is about key picks with the most fantasy relevance. So Ross did picks 1 through 10, then 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 23, 24, 26, 28 and 29. So it looks like all the picks but 11, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 27 and 30.

ynotzz - you're kidding, right? The only thing I sold for a 'calendar year' was the Frozen Pool, Fantasy Hockey Geek and Goalie Post which were all subscriptions. Why would I sell a physical item - a magazine - for a calendar year? Can you, at your job, take a 50% pay cut? This Guide makes my living, it wouldn't make sense to collect one price for the work and research of two of the Guides

Loving the guide... Really enjoying the guide after a 1st read, there's stuff in there I didn't know about like injuries and other golden nuggets. One thing I noticed on the draft list is you forgot Ovechkin, so that's a big omission. Other than that looking good, and I look forward to the updates throughout the summer! Thanks Dobber!

Flames in Guide Don't worry Flames tend to get shortchanged in the guide, normally in the post draft section. They failed to include the Jankowski pick last year and haven't included pick #22 for Poirier this year, all the picks before him and the rest of the first round after him but not that pick, why? If you are goijng to break down the first round of the draft then include everyone surely.

Other than that I love the guide and it has thrown up some intersting questions when selecting my keepers.

Corban Knight Knight should be in the guide, he might even end up slotting in as the 3rd line center for the Flames as they plan on giving a lot of young guys big ice time this year (especially considering Knight is a center).

Haven't grabbed the guide yet (will do so shortly!), but is Dobber predicting big things from the Oilers again this year? That's his one big swing and a miss every single year!

Fantasy guide Not that I think it's very expensive or much of a cost at all, but when I bought your fantasy guide in january you claimed that it was a full calender year subscription and that I not only would get the january edition but the 13/14 edition as well.

... No mention of Corban Knight in the guide. Seems like an oversight. He should at least be in the mix for a roster spot with the Flames.
