Looks like Dany Sabourin will have some competition as Fleury's backup. The Pens have signed Ty Conklin...so the two will compete for the position.
Petr Nedved has signed a contract to play in the Czech League this season. His NHL days, as expected, are over.
The Wild have re-signed the Boogeyman Derek Boogaard to a multi-year contract. You know what you're getting with him.
The Ducks managed to get Jason King out of Europe, signing him to a one-year deal. I wouldn't count on him making the team...but then again, he warrants keeping an eye on in camp.
The Ducks have also signed prospect Brett Skinner to a contract. He ranks 216 on my prospect list. The team also signed forward Dan Lacouture for depth purposes.
The Stars have signed Ivan Vishnevsky to an entry level deal. He ranks 261 on my prospects list, primarily because he is a few years away from coming over and making an offensive impact. Eventually, thought, he'll be one of the better quarterbacks in the game.
The Sharks added depth utility player Brad Norton to the roster, signing him as a UFA.
The Leafs have signed Derick Walser as a UFA. He'll play for the Marlies.
The Leafs also signed Jeremy Williams to a two-year contract. I think Williams will make the team this year and contribute in the 40-point range as a rookie.
Marc Chouinard has found a home. As I had expected, that home is in Europe. He signed to play in the Swiss League.
The Boston Globe is reporting that it will likely be Hannu Toivonen who is moved, while Tim Thomas stays on as the backup to Fernandez. I had speculated in an earlier article that the writing was on the wall for Thomas. However, since Rask is just a year or two away, there really is no need to make the "youth" decision here. Toivonen could go and it wouldn't hurt the team's future one bit.
Peter Forsberg is saying that his surgery on his ankle was a success and everything seems to be healing properly. He probably won't be skating until the end of August at the earliest.
Matthew Barnaby, as has been speculated, announced his retirement on the radio yesterday.
