Hey gang - Angus here. Came across an interesting writing opportunity earlier today (more on it here). I formally tossed my hat in the ring, and I`d love your support. Read that link, and let those who make the decisions know you`d like to see me there too (or, if you picked Malkin too early this year at my recommendation, keep on reading).

Late draft? The Fantasy Guide and Draft List are updated through Friday, October 7.

Ryan Kesler will make his season debut tomorrow night - that's fast. Kudos to you for taking a chance on him at the draft.

Here is today's Puck Daddy column. Also, please note that my THN columns have shifted from Tuesdays and Saturdays... to Mondays and Thursdays. So that THN column will be up this afternoon.

The Jackets continue to shake things up - Matt Calvert has been sent back down.

Peter Mueller is practicing with the team, which is a good sign, but with the fourth liners /scratches, which is not a good sign. Still no official word on whether or not he has concussion symptoms. He hasn’t taken a hit to the head, but perhaps he has some headaches and is being cautious.

How good is Johan Hedberg looking in terms of fantasy own? Marty Brodeur missed practice yesterday with a shoulder injury.

Patrick Kane is holding up well as a centerman. I didn’t expect that – but he’s won 56.7 percent of his faceoffs. This ‘experiment’ just might stick…

Evgeni Malkin will miss the next two games with the soreness in his knee – and that’s what it is, not his foot. He did not accompany the Pens on their two-game road trip, and neither did Brooks Orpik, Dustin Jeffrey and Sidney Crosby (per the post-gazette).

Is this the year that we start including John Tavares in Art Ross conversations? He’s going to be in them, eventually. But this year? Why not? It’s not like he’ll give you warning of it. Did Jaromir Jagr give you a heads up when he topped his career high of 99 with 149 points in 1995-96? I don’t have the pool books in front of me, but I’m betting they had Jagr pegged for around 100. Just something to think about. He’s certainly taking another step forward, anyway, as I and many others said that he would.

With Doughty on the shelf, the Kings have recalled Voynov – who shouldn’t have been sent down in the first place and I have a hunch he will make it impossible for them to send him down again.

Zac Dalpe’s disastrous start is now complete – he is out “week to week” with a lower body injury. Coach Paul Maurice wasn’t using him anyway. Look for something along the lines of 20 points in 45 games this season.

Chris Kunitz. Now there’s a man with a smart agent. Turris needs to give that agent a call, pronto.

Finally, something nice to say about Nikita Filatov – he has three points in two AHL games and is plus-1. The guy needs to dominate that league before attempting to do so at the NHL level.

While I’m looking up some AHL numbers – Brayden Schenn has six points in three games and Kyle Palmieri has six points in two games. Paul Byron has two points in three games (that’s actually second on the team) and Cam Atkinson has one point in two games.

If you haven’t gone to Goalie Post to see the free chart that gives you the starting goalies for each day – then your competitors have an edge on you. Check it out. And I’m working on setting up a free one-week trial for everyone. You HAVE to see the gold that Justin Goldman has been sending members. The members are going wild over it – they can’t believe the nuggets they’ve been getting for their 83 cents a month!

Mike Fisher will be out for at least another week. He will not make this three-game road trip for Nashville. The longer he remains out, the more time Craig Smith has to show his stuff.

Speaking of Smith, he was taken off David Legwand’s line. Guess it was working too well.

Surprised to see Teddy Purcell scratched Saturday. I thought he was beyond that. Ryan Shannon, however, isn’t as surprising.

Jason Blake is out for three months with that laceration. So Pat Maroon will get a look, but I’m willing to bet Palmieri gets back up as well. Especially if Maroon doesn’t assert himself.

The status of Andy McDonald will be updated today – he is suspected of having a concussion.

Dustin Jeffrey has been cleared for contact now. The Penguins are slowly rounding into shape. Although it seems as though Malkin will be playing 65 games at best, given his knee soreness. That still means 90 points in this man’s opinion.

McGrattan vs. Janssen - wow:

Easton – how/why they designed the Stealth RS:

B AND B Did anyone see Burmistrov and Bogosian tonight? Bogosian's rush in the third was what kind of potential he has...I really am excited to watch Burmistrov and Bogosian when they break out.

Brassard Now that Calvert is back down and Carter out for a foot injury, do you think that Brassard will be back on the first two lines ? I don't think he will make a 55 pts season if he don't take that chance !!!

Pens - Tyler Kennedy Kennedy is DTD with 'concussion like symptoms.'

I am not sure when he took a serious hit but he is not expected to play on the 2 game road trip.

From the Pens site
Coachspeak with Dan Bylsma…

On Tyler Kennedy:
Tyler Kennedy is suffering from concussion-like symptoms and is going to be evaluated further. We were made aware of the symptoms (Sunday) night. That’s why he was not on the ice and he won’t be there tonight.

... As a long-suffering Islanders fan, I am pretty much immune to over-exuberance at this point. That said, Tavares looks much, much stronger on the puck and seems to be skating a notch faster. He's skating through checks and has been able to carry the puck into the zone like never before. It's only been 4 games, but he really looks like he could score 50 goals and a 100 points this year. The Art Ross and Rocket Richard are both possible. And you don't have to go back as far as Jagr to find a player who got to the top of the scoring leader board seemingly without warning, as Stamkos did that just 2 years ago.

Parenteau has also played very well and looks determined to stay on the JT line. And the way he's played so far he definitely deserves to be there.

Mueller back Thursday The latest on Dater's blog is that P. Mueller is good to go, will be listed a healthy scratch tonight, and coach Sacco wants him to get a couple more practices in before he dresses again... He should come back against Chicago either Thursday or Saturday as the teams play a home and home.
