Fantasy Guide out NOW. Enjoy.

The Draft List won’t be ready until Tuesday. But the Guide provides enough kickassitude to get you through that extra day.

Par for the course whenever I release my guide - a roster gets shaken up within seconds. The Devils have placed Colin White and Trent Hunter on waivers. They have a 48-hour window for buyouts thanks to the Zach Parise arbitration award.

So Max Noreau hated the fact that he was traded to a team desperate for a defenseman with his skill set, so he decided to sign a contract to play in Switzerland. I don’t know what to say. I guess I just assume that hockey players want to play in the NHL.

Our buddy Alessandro Seren Rosso translated another interview, this one with Kirill Kabanov. The quick version is this – he’s focusing more on hockey, the Isles are happy with his progress, he played on a line with Strome and Niederreiter in development camp and they got along on and off the ice.

Today is the big day – everyone on Long Island will be glued to the radio and TV in anticipation of the precise moment I release my fantasy guide. Also, they may have a passing interest in the Nassau County vote on a new arena. But mostly the guide.

A “no” vote could see the team up for sale.

An early DobberHockey guide release could see the Islanders being traded straight up for the rights to sell my guide. It won’t be enough – this guide is gold.

Here is an update on Evgeni Malkin – working very hard, clearly on a mission…

Shea Weber, shooting for one year in arbitration? Interesting…

Another brief one today. Hell, it’s dog days of summer anyway…

Beating a dead horse, but Chris Osgood and the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1998, on the strength of his spectacular goaltending, shown here:

Hey Jamie, they outline the Angus Prime Cuts on Page 31:

Filet Mignon – Jeff sees a career season for this player in 2011-12
Porterhouse – 2011-12 will be a productive season
Prime Rib – Similar to last season, or a slight improvement
Sirloin – A slight regression should be expected
Rump – Prepare to be a bit disappointed

Guide Guide indicates that the Red Wings haven't signed a backup. Ty Conklin was signed weeks ago....

Cuts of meat Hey guys

I've been enjoying the guide all day long, minus the interuptions for kids crap, but did I miss the part that outlined what steaks we like better? Is a porterhouse, which I've heard of before, but never seen at the suppermarket, better than a sirloin? If Angus is going to use code, is there a meat thermometre to decipher it, or do I need to talk to my butcher?

Guide here's some things I noticed

-The cover picture of the Sedins is way too blurry. The picture needs to have a larger native resolution. Not a huge deal since it has nothing to do with content, but it would look SO much better if the cover picture was the correct resolution. When you're putting out a package like this, everything matters IMO. Just a suggestion smilies/smiley.gif

-Found this under PHI: "Dobber’s confidence that Leighton will be the starter:100%"

-I don't know how Bugg could say that Rocco Grimaldi, a second round midget, has a 90% likelihood of hitting 70+ points. Was this a typo?

-I think some long-term upside projections are too much, like Backstrom 120 points and Huberdeau at 95 points, but that's not a big deal at all. What I do find a big deal is the constant pumping of Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin as 160 points players. No player will ever reach 160 points again. Way too much. Everyone knows Crosby and Ovechkin are clear-cut #1 and #2 fantasy picks, but for a guy like Malkin who has not been amazing the last 2 years, you will be leading some fantasy rookies astray by saying Malkin has 160 points upside. I think Malkin is #3 fantasy pick, but others may not. Anyways, not a big deal as these guys are the cream of the crop anyway.

-I'm disappointed that you picked Rundblad to win the Calder. I'm srarting to worry for his future. More often than not, guys who are hyped this much tend to disappoint. Pick somebody else Dobber, please!!!!! smilies/smiley.gif

... Coyle is going back to school, but I should have had him in the upside chart. He is there for the next update, thank you.

Auld - Budaj, damn! I've made that mistake a couple of times, I get the two Maytag repairmen mixed up!

10th and 11th overall were not reviewed. We chomped up enough space with that article as it was

... Just wondering why no mention of Charlie coyle at all on the Minnesota section? Is he still that far away even though he moved to such an offensive lacking organization?

NJD Um Parise agreed on the 6 Million contract.... it was never Awarded to him. The Devils have talked about continuing to work on a Long Term one... Parise's Arbitration case was suppose to go forward August 3rd...

With Colin White outta the picture does this mean NJ is opening up a spot for Adam Larsson? Vochenkov, Tallinder, Greene and Salvadore seem set.. leaving 2 or 3 spots for Larsson, Corrente, Urbom, Taormina, Fraser and Fayne (I personally like the order I put them in)

Also Trent Hunter leaving could spell a few apperances of Adam Henrique and Vlad Zharkov...

Dunno whats in Dobber's Guide, but does Jersey Line up simmiler to:
Kovy-Zajac-Zubrus
Parise-Elias-Palmieri
Tedenby-Josefson-Clarkson
Boulton-Steckel-Janssen
Extras: Pelly
Call Ups: Henrique, Zharkov, Sestito...

Guide error Peter Budaj is the Canadiens' backup, not Alex Auld. Not that it matters much - a scarecrow would be plenty useful backing up Price.

Osgood vs Cujo I'm not on Dobber for his Osgood comments and generally agree with his views, but some have been excessively hard on the little tender. Comparing Osgood to Curtis Joseph is tricky because Joseph in my view was a far better goalie until the games really mattered. He had trouble past the first round and that's not uncommon as some guys handle the pressure better. Osgood was good and under pressure he was better.. Nice quality to have in your goaltender.

The "anticipation" must be outlawed as torture under the Geneva convention or something, surely??

... Osgood was a very good goalie. I stand by that statement and have said it all along. Even posting the clip above, I said nothing untoward about Osgood.

The worst thing I say about Osgood is that he was never great. Just very good. Very steady. And he is not a Hall of Famer. Especially if they don't put Curtis Joseph in there.

A harmless statement, but makes for good fodder for Red Wings fans.

Osgood plenty good I know all you experts out there know better than Ken Holland and Jim Nill, but the fact the Wings management kept Osgood around as long as they did speaks volumes to his ability to win them games. He was a stellar goalie on a very good team, and won championships with them. Hall-worthy, who knows, but definitely able to raise his game when he needed to, the Claude Lemeiux of the goalie ranks. Winning is more than just about save percentage and GAA.

A little confused Wasn't Hasek on the '02 team that won the Cup? I remember the Wings stomping on Philly(still hurts) in '97 and then repeating against Washington in '98 but I don't remember Hasek being on that team.

... One sided? Comments don't get any dumber.

Give me a Youtube clip that is positive towards Osgood, and I'll post it. I was planning to post that link, because it was the only one I was sent, and I didn't know if it was pro or con before watching it. But I understand - sometimes you jump to conclusions to defend a team you don't care about. You don't care about the Red Wings, right? Because if you did, then your comment would be a little one-sided. And I can't imagine you doing that.

... Censor? Again with the beyond stupid rhetoric. I'm telling you to stop being so god awful onesided.

That argument is also beyond ridiculous and not relevant in the least. They started the playoffs with Hasek who was shaky as shit. That's the only relevant comparable. With Hasek in net, they were not confident and were on their way to losing to Nashville. Enter Osgood and he plays out of his mind to bail them out and the team's confidence comes back. He was a brick wall for most of the time of that playoffs and since you always refuse to bring that up, it just goes to show that you never even watched those games. Bottom line: You're ignorant about Chris Osgood and it makes you look stupid.

Your usual cocky attitude is just icing on your cake of ignorance and stupidity.

... You're not trying to censor my right to post someone else's video, are you? Or to present a joke or opinion? I hope not - that would make the ramblings boring. smilies/grin.gif

So if the Red Wings had Lundqvist, Luongo, Vokoun, Fleury, Thomas, Miller, Brodeur, Roloson, or Ward then they wouldn't have won that Cup? Doesn't say much about the rest of the team, if that's the case.
Your turn - stop making yourself look ridiculous.

Noreau Ugh I had his name all but penciled into my team's defense rotation this season. There must be more to the story because there's no way anyone is actually that stupid to pass up an almost guaranteed NHL spot by choice.
