Goldie Says: Here's Nine Thoughts on Niko Hovinen and his new deal with the Flyers. This damages Eriksson and Riopel's long-term value. A phrase to describe Philly's goalie depth? Convoluted and over-saturated madness.

Chicago prospect Ivan Vishnevskiy is off to the KHL.

Pekka Rinne with a gem of an interview over at Puck Daddy.

After battling injuries over the past few years, Sens prospect Jared Cowen appears to have gotten his career back on track. He had a fantastic WHL season and has adjusted seamlessly to the AHL game after joining the Baby Sens during their playoff run.

Cowen is big and mobile. His development will probably mirror that of Victor Hedman - don't expect much offense out of the gate, but in the right situation he could be a solid point producer. Not saying he will be as good as Hedman, but stylistically they are similar players.

If you own Tavares, Okposo, Bailey, Moulson, heck, any Islander, look for improved offensive numbers in 2011-12. Young players don't always improve (people that expect improvement each year are making a huge error, and one that is very common), but the return of Mark Streit to the lineup will have a huge, huge trickledown effect.

On paper, I'd like to see Travis Hamonic play the point with Streit on the power play. Hamonic moves the puck well and he has an absolute hammer of a point shot.

It sounds like the Thrashers could be on the move to Winnipeg shortly. I wonder how the NHL will realign the divisions. Does Detroit go to the East? What about Nashville to the Southeast?

Carcillo Carcillo suspended for first two games of 2011-12 season for off ice conduct during first intermission of Game 4 vs Boston. Check the boxscore. His penalty led to Boston's first goal. Now see who he cross checked to get said penalty. Let the conspiracy theories abound.

There goes Ivan Vishnievski Longtime dobber fav just signed with Atlant of the KHL. Lots of offensive promise, but with AHL seasons of 19 points in 67 games, 36 in 79, and 15 in 46, it seems he just didn't adjust to the North American game.

Wings Detroit's VP, Jim Devellano, says that Detroit will be in same conference - at least for next season.

The travel isn't all the bad, IMO. You have 4 games per season within your conference. That's two NW trips & two SW trips. The first flight & return flights are long ones, but the schedulers typically group the geographical areas (VAN/EDM/CGY), (SJ,ANA,LA,PHX) into the same trip.

Also, a Detroit move would leave Chicago as the lone Original Six team in the West.
I think it is in the NHL's best interest to keep Detroit/Chicago together, in the West.

... Hmm, I could see it either being :

Winnepeg - North East
Minnesota - Central (In the general area)
Nashville - South East (Closest team to Atlanta Area)

or something like :

Winnepeg - North West
Colorado - Pacific
+
Either Dallas - South East
or Dallas - Central & Nashville - South East

... Sentium, Washington is also in that division and they are not really "South" east either.

... Nice to see some love for Cowen smilies/smiley.gif I like to compare him to a bigger Marc Staal, or a smaller (and not as hard slapper) version of Zdeno Chara. Him and Karlsson will make a money pairing one day.

... Why would Detroit be in the Southeast division? Makes no sense at all.

Divisions My understanding is that Detroit moves (south) east, dallas goes to the central, Winnipeg moves to the NW and Colorado goes to the east.... If that happens watchout for the Southeast... Detroit, Washington, TB and the way Carolina has been going the last 6 or so years they are due for a hundred point season... Florida could set records for worst record and least divisional wins since the expansion era.

BTW what is Okposo's projected stat line for next year?
