A great SI piece on Ryan Kesler. Interesting to note that his stick flex has had so much to do with his recent goal scoring streak.

Dobber: My article from thn.com today.

My take on The Duck, The Ranger and The Blue have been added to the Guardian Project. The Project will be revealed during the second intermission Sunday.

Sidney Crosby has been cleared to work out off ice. I need him back in a bad way, as I am sure most poolies who own him do. No timetable for a return yet, though.

Ray Emery's road to recovery is apparently going well - it sounds like he is going to test out his hip at the AHL level to see if he can still play the game professionally.

Read more about his injury here - how he avoided having a hip replacement is absolutely remarkable.

Spring training is around the corner... don't forget to check out DobberBaseball!

A few new DobberHockey wallpapers - Zherdev and Mike Richards. The rest of the collection is here.

According to Darren Dreger, the Leafs are looking to make a big splash AT the deadline. Who would they move? Versteeg? Kadri? Giguere? Not sure they can really offer enough assets up to make any sort of splash.

Haven't really looked at the All-Star rosters yet, but I am intrigued at the potential for a line featuring Stamkos, Brad Richards, and Martin St. Louis.

Where do you all sit on Travis Zajac? He has had a miserable season (due in large part to the Parise injury). What should be expected from him next year and beyond?

He’s big and equally adept at passing and shooting the puck. The Devils have some good young centers, but no one with Zajac’s pedigree or NHL experience. Jason Arnott is nearing the twilight of his career.

I’d dump Zajac and cut ties if you are still holding out hope in a one-year league. In a keeper, I almost always advise against selling low. I have been burned in the past before by holding on to players too long, but I’d rather not sell low than give a player away to a competitor way below value.

If you were an NHL GM, would you trade the 10th overall draft pick in 2011 for Kyle Turris? No rumour to this one, just me tossing out a suggestion.

Sergei Shirokov – I think he is worth keeping in deeper league formats. His desire to play in the NHL is huge, and I don’t see the KHL as a threat right now. He has already turned down $500k offers (tax free, as well) to play back home, and his AHL pay is about 1/10 of that.

The biggest difference between Shirokov this year and last year – conditioning. He looks stronger and his endurance and stamina on the ice are much improved. He is in tough to crack the Canucks right now unless they sustain a few injuries up front, but he has top six NHL upside.

If I had Stamkos, would I trade him for Malkin? Yes. Unless it is a league that HEAVILY weighted goals (two or three to one, for example), give me Malkin seven days a week.

With Edler on the IR, my defense is pretty thin in my main keeper league. I traded Ehrhoff last week, and the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. Right now I am sitting with Kampfer, Boyle, Liles, Chara, and Karlsson. Ekman-Larsson is on the farm but I don’t want to waste a move calling him up.

Ended up picking Dan Hamhuis up off of the waiver wire. He doesn’t see a ton of PP time, but his peripheral stats are solid (this league counts basically everything).

Dreger Why would he mention the Leafs are going to make a big splash "after the deadline?". Did you mean at the deadline because talking about free agency now doesnt make much sense?

Wallpapers I must say, both of the new wallpaper editions are great but the Zherdev is absolutely hilarious! Great work.

@ Angus
Thanks for your thoughts on Shirokov. The keeper league I am in is only in it's 2nd season and during the inaugural prospect draft, i took Shirokov late because of his desire to play in the NHL and most importantly to do what it takes to learn and to play in North America. Was a little disappointed in his call-ups last year and thought about cutting ties (due to a glut of top tier prospects) but I am glad to see him progressing and am glad to still have him.

Here's to his top 6 upside! hopefully Daniel and Henrik find chemistry with him and i can laugh all the way to the bank although, playing with Kesler won't be a bad thing either.

Thanks again!

really?..... Stamkos will produce more than Malkin in every season over the next five years. Something chronic is beginning with Malkin and it isn't sinusitis. Even healthy, it's like comparing Yzerman with Lindros. It may have been a debate periodically, but reflecting on the careers, is no contest.

Stamkos/Malkin Really?! Malkin over Stamkos, 7 days a week? Seems like some people are still living in the past, or maybe its denial. Who knows? But thats crazy talk.

... Out of Towner - I see him there smilies/wink.gif

Dave - You are precisely the guy I want in my keeper league. Anyone who thinks a healthy Stamkos at his peak is in the same universe as a healthy Malkin at his peak would be a bottom dweller in my league. Clearly, you just started watching hockey in September, and don't remember Malkin's Art Ross or Conn Smythe days of two years ago .smilies/cool.gif

... Dave - Dobber and I disagree on a lot of things. He doesn't tell me to do or say anything regarding specific players. My opinion. Disagree? Fine.

Nice to see the positive opinions on Zajac - I think this year has been a perfect storm (Parise injury, struggling team, no real puck moving defensemen, lack of speed on the wings).

stamkos... in a points only keeper where i recently got stamkos w/boyes for nash, j. staal, and jaybo (yes kind of a steal), i wouldn't trade him for malkin as I am desparately chasing down 1st place and his top of league points are helping me immensely....but a different situation might call for a different approach.

Stamkos/Malkin Tough to make the argument, my guess is 98% of Stamkos owner disagree. That being said, 106 and 113 for Malkin are not flukes and Stamkos would have to keep putting up points at a ridiculous pace to break 100 this year. I think we have to give Malkin a little more credit than he is getting.

... With Loui Eriksson on that team too I wonder if that line will actually happen.

I watched a few Devils games when they were at their absolute lowest point. The entire offense was running through Zajac. Not Kovalchuk, Zajac. He really struggled not having someone reliable to feed the puck to though. Kovalchuk was in just the worst funk and basically could not get himself involved. I think with a healthy Parise and an engaged Kovalchuk that Zajac has dynamite potential.

zajac in da house i see no reason why zajac shouldn't be back to 60-70 (with 70-90 in good years) with parise/kovalchuk 24/7 for the next several years. for this year... bleh.

Zajac I wouldn't give up completely on Zajac in one year leagues yet. He's been on a 55 point pace over the last two months which is still rosterable in many 1-year leagues. Plus he still has some upside the rest of the way.

... If you had Stamkos, would you trade him for Malkin? No, you'd throw in Shattenkirk and Lehtonen and trade him for Brodeur and Chara.

Sorry, couldn't resist. smilies/smiley.gif Good read as always.

Zajac I'm still holding out hope. No one wants to pay anything for him right now so I'll give him and Parise a half season to see how things go.
