Tarik El Bashir of the Washington Post is my second source - Bouchard, Alzner and Godfrey are done. I thought they went too early on Bouchard...but I'm not the coach. I think he would have done well with the added time and experience in training camp.

Japer's Rink is reporting that the Caps have cut Bouchard (huh?), Alzner and  Godfrey today. When I get a second source on that, I'll post it.

Mike Fisher has signed a five-year contract extension with the Sens for $21 million. Thanks to Todd for the heads up.

Markus Naslund says that after this season he will be signing one-year contracts and start taking things one season at a time. I would guess that he will play two more years after this one and then hang them up.

Jamie Langenbrunner will likely have surgery on his sports hernia this week. That would take him out until November.

The Ottawa Sun is speculating that the Sens are interested in signing Jeff O'Neill

Schneider's ankle injury is a broken bone. He will be on the shelf for a minimum of four weeks, which takes him out of the two games in England, as well as four to six other games. This makes Maxim Kondratiev a decent option, and Francois Beauchemin a very good one.

There were some casualties for the Blue Jackets yesterday. Fredrik Modin sat out of the Preds/Jackets contest with back spasms, Foote missed with a sore hamstring, Kris Beech left the game with a thigh bruise, and the big news - David Vyborny took a big hit from Martin Erat and had to be helped off the ice with what looked to be a serious knee injury. He will undergo an MRI today. Beech is day to day.

The Sharks have offered Sandis Ozolinsh a tryout. If this works, it would push Ehrhoff off the first power play unit. Keep an eye on it.

Trevor Linden, Roberto Luongo and Sami Salo all went down with injuries in practice yesterday. Salo was later seen wearing a cast on his wrist. Luongo took a shot high and was pretty shaken up, but seems to be okay. Linden pulled his groin.

Nicklas Backstrom scored his first goal in his first preseason game yesterday.

The competition for backup goaltender is officially underway, as Pekka Rinne began the game against Columbus and Dan Ellis finished it. Both netminders performed well, with Rinne giving up just a goal on 15 shots, while Ellis kicked aside all 18 shots that he faced.

Diminutive forward Eric Perrin, signed as an unrestricted free agent over the summer, tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner, to lead the Thrashers over the Blues 3-1. Youngster Ondrej Pavelec played all 60 minutes for Atlanta.

The Eric Staal, Cory Stillman and Erik Cole line was back to its old tricks on Sunday, combining for six points in a 4-3 overtime win over Washington. The Caps held all of their stars out of the lineup and it took the 'Canes a couple of periods to get rolling, but when they did the Staal line worked their magic.

Brett Sterling and Bryan Little both sat out of yesterday's contest. The two are fighting for a roster spot that would have a lot of fantasy significance. Sterling will play tonight on a line with White and Kovalchuk.

Sam Gagner clicked very well on a line with Hemsky and Penner in yesterday's annual intersquad game. The trio combined for 13 points.

Chicago line combos: Toews, Kane and Ruutu...Havlat, Samsonov and Lang. Jack Skille was very impressive yesterday and he played on a line with Dave Bolland and Adam Hobson in scrimmage.

Valterri Filppula missed practice yesterday with a sore groin and will miss today as well.

Wild coach Lemaire may not like how Belanger is playing between Demitra and Gaborik. He is considering moving Demitra back to center and trying Petr Kalus on the wing with those two.

Cory Murphy picked up two points in his first NHL preseason game. He is a promising offensive rearguard.

Richard Zednik played with Olli Jokinen on a line yesterday.

The best damn fantasy hockey guide on the web will be updated in...
