Have any early season performances led to trades or trade discussions in your respective fantasy leagues? There are a few players I am targeting once the season gets going - Roman Horak (Calgary, on the waiver wire) and Justin Faulk (trade, although I know his owner is reading this....).

Lots of AHL previews and CHL stuff from the last few days in today’s ramblings.

On that note – check out Brendan Ross’s ramblings from yesterday at DobberProspects right here.

Zach Hall has been named OHL player of the month. Hall had six goals and 16 points in nine October games. He plays for the Barrie Colts, and is currently undrafted.

Canucks two-way defensive prospect Frank Corrado was named as defenseman of the month. Corrado captains the Sudbury Wolves – he’s a tough and mobile defenseman who reads the play really well – and he’s starting to show more offense this season compared to 2011-12.

Connor McDavid won his first of many OHL awards, winning October’s rookie of the month award. The phenom has garnered comparisons to Sidney Crosby. He isn’t draft eligible until 2015, but is the early favorite for 1st overall already.

We can all thank Joe Sakic for saving George Parros’s mustache. Parros reveals why in this entertaining interview with Puck Daddy.

Any DobberHockey readers/members participating in Movember. I am – any interest in setting up a group page for donations? I know a lot of people do these with friends and/or their employers.

Brandon Dubinsky was named ECHL player of the week with seven points in three games. Have any of our readers in Alaska been out to see him and the Aces play?

*

Potential 2013 1st overall pick Seth Jones shows why scouts are so interested in him:

Taylor Hall is making his AHL debut with Oklahoma City tonight. Hopefully we will get a look at Edmonton’s future power play – Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, and Schultz. And how about Yakupov in the mix once the season starts?

*

Edmonton Oilers defensive prospect David Musil has been traded from Vancouver to Edmonton of the WHL. The Giants, to be frank, are awful this year, and the Oil Kings are a great team. Musil is a big and rangy two way defenseman who continues to develop his game. I’m not really sure if he has any offensive upside – it has come and gone in spurts during his career with the Giants.

*

Kamloops forward JC Lipon was named WHL player of the month for October. Lipon currently has 40 points through 17 games this season. Lipon hasn’t been drafted yet – he is 19 years old, and if he keeps this kind of production up, the chances that he slides through another seven rounds are nil.

An update on Alex Ganchenyuk’s season from the OHL website.

Galchenyuk is doing everything that he can to prove to the Canadiens that they were right to not let his injury scare them away.

"It was tough missing last year," Galchenyuk said. "But I did a lot of work (to get back) and I had a lot of help with the doctors and all of the medical staff.

I’m a big fan of his – centers who can do what he can don’t grow on trees. If Montreal develops him properly, he could be their first superstar forward since… Guy Lafleur?

Columbus prospect Boone Jenner had a four point night, and now leads the OHL in scoring again. I could see him with the Jackets in another year – Jenner is one of those “does everything well” types.

Columbus, if they can get some stability off the ice and between the pipes, could be a team to watch for. I like their mix of grit and tenacity with Dubinsky and Foligno joining the likes of Umberger and Calvert. And I’m expecting huge things from Ryan Johansen.

The jury is still out on Brassard, and Jack Johnson is an adventure defensively, but there are enough interesting pieces in place to start to build something in the right direction.

I have been following the CHLPA issue – I haven’t written about it much here because it isn’t really fantasy relevant, but the word “fantasy” definitely applies. Such a bizarre situation. Georges Laraque has stepped down as the face of the organization, and the law firms that were hired to represent the CHLPA in Quebec and Alberta have cut ties, as well.

One prospect who has really impressed me this season is Buffalo’s Mark Pysyk. Silky smooth defenseman who plays with a ton of poise. Here is his DobberProspects profile.

He has been solid with Rochester this season – his first in pro hockey.

DobberHockey member Buck Fush says something I completely agree with – expect big things from Justin Faulk whenever hockey starts back up.

Everyone's talking about Justin Schultz and his red hot start this season in the AHL, but Justin Faulk is right up there among the league leaders as well with 2-9-11 in 7 games played. When you consider that he is a full two years younger than Schultz I think his numbers are even more impressive. I think many poolies don't realize just how extraordinarily good Faulk’s development has been over the past year; highlighted by a brilliant showing at the WC (4-4-8, +7 in 8 games played).

An interesting discussion going on in the forums – three scariest movies you have seen? Mine are, in order:

Deliverance, Arachnophobia, and the original Friday the 13th (the canoe scene…..).

A great (long, but great) read on Sergei Fedorov from Yahoo’s Nick Cotsonika, who is over touring the KHL right now.

He defected. Remember that. Remember that as Sergei Fedorov does a TV interview surrounded by CSKA Moscow memorabilia – red stars on the sofa, a red star on the banner looming behind him. Remember that as he sits in his office at the Soviet arena on Leningradsky Prospect, the new head manager of what once was literally the Central Sport Club of the Army.
