Taylor Hall will have surgery on a torn labrum. He is shut down for the season.

Baseball season is a week away folks – and the DobberBaseball forum is humming like never before. I’m excited about the growing community over there. DobberHockey’s community has set the bar pretty high. Anyway, if you haven’t yet done so, pick up the Fantasy Guide. The baseball site is also running a big $500 FanDuel contest that’s free to join so head on over there for that.

The big game for me last night was the one involving Claude Giroux versus Steven Stamkos. It was anti-climatic though – the two combined for just one point. At this point, Evgeni Malkin seems pretty safe atop the scoring race, barring injury.

As I noted on Twitter last night, I’m pretty excited about Gustav Nyquist. He has four points in four games now and he scored his first NHL goal. I hope they keep him in the lineup into the playoffs. I remember being excited about Jiri Hudler coming up. I remember not being excited at all about Filppula. But the last time I was this excited about a forward prospect in the Detroit system it was Henrik Zetterberg. I remember when Nyquist first jumped onto my radar – it was putting together the 2009 Fantasy Prospects Report (yes, if you don’t buy those, then you REALLY miss out keeper leaguers!). Matt Bugg submitted his profile to me and I had never heard of him. In his profile he said “Datsyuk or Zetterberg anyone?” Nothing gets a fantasy owner’s attention more than that. I’m not saying that he’ll be like those guys. I’m just saying he is an extremely promising player.

Johan Franzen is close to returning, so that may spell the end for Nyquist. The team has been controlling Nyquist’s minutes, and it’s hard to argue with their strategy. Look for Franzen Wednesday.

The Avs made the smart decision during their desperate playoff run and scratched Peter Mueller. Yep, sarcasm.

Todd Bertuzzi had four assists and was plus-5. He was a career minus-53 heading into this season, but has whittled that down to minus-28.

Kyle Quincey has 13 shots on goal in his last two games and nothing to show for it.

Uh oh. Erik Karlsson is heating up again. You know what that means? Fifty assists in his next six games.

With three points last night, Kyle Wellwood has 44, which is just one shy of his career high set as a rookie with the Leafs. Amazing that he had 87 points in his first 130 career games. All that promise destroyed by a slew of injuries.

Zach Bogosian had 10 shots on goal last night and 19 over his last three games. Before that, he averaged about two shots per game.

Alex Goligoski’s assist last night was just his second point in 13 games. We’ll chalk this season up to injury and jitters/pressure of big contract, and pencil him in for 50 points next year. Can’t question the talent, or his standing with the team.

Vancouver fans can rest easy – Roberto Luongo has his confidence back. In his last three games he has faced 115 shots and stopped 111 of them.

Jamie McGinn, Paul Stastny and David Jones were each minus-4 last night.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Landeskog earned an assist on their only goal and managed to be a plus-1 in a 5-1 loss. He’s selling me on the Calder. Hard to believe he’s just a rookie.

Patric Hornqvist has 16 goals in his last 31 contests.

Ray Emery has an upper-body injury and the Blackhawks recalled Carter Hutton. Alexander Salak is having a terrible year. Terrible year in the AHL. While Hutton has had a fantastic year and has earned this recall. Not that I think he gets to play…

As writers and fans were still writing about and rave about the recent success of Ilya Bryzgalov, the bottom sure dropped out last night – he faced just 14 shots but allowed four goals. Bryzgalov was said to be limping after the game.

Reilly Smith, who signed with Dallas Sunday, could not play last night nor will he likely be able to play Wednesday. He has some things to sort out with his visa.

Dallas is on a signing frenzy. You can add prospect Alex Chiasson to the list that includes Campbell and the two Smiths. Chiasson is their top fantasy prospect, ranked 53 on my list. Unlike Reilly Smith, Chiasson will not play for Dallas but will play for Texas.

Wanna get hypnotized? Check out this clever .gif of Sidney Crosby taking Marek Zidlicky to school.

The Devils signed prospect David Wohlberg to an ELC. He is ranked 358 on my Fantasy Prospects List, but moves up with this news. His upside is 60 points tops, likely much less.

The Ducks sent Kyle Palmieri back to the minors, but he had a really great run this past cup of coffee.

Here is an update on Nicklas Backstrom, who is not 100 percent yet, but getting there.

The Penguins recalled two defensemen and one has to wonder why. Simon Despres and Brian Strait were called up from WBS. I know Kris Letang was tossed around a lot last game – with a worry (to me) about his head one time, and his knee the other. Ben Lovejoy left the game with an injury. But that’s all I can figure. Letang did return to the game, but hell he returned to the game the last time he was concussed. Stay tuned.

Bryz While Bryz appeared to have a bad night, two of those goals were on breakaways, one was a bonehead giveaway in front of the net by Carle, and the last was a buzzer-beater through traffic by Stamkos. Apparently he may have been hurt in warmup as well and played through the pain? Hard to say, hopefully a few days off will get him right again.
